The Smart Fortwo has been imported
and commercialized in Canada by Mercedes-Benz Canada and sold through
its network of 44 smart dealers strategically located across the
country.
All Canadian Smarts are powered, by a tiny, rear-mounted 799 cc
three cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. It generates 40.2 horsepower
at 4200 rpm.
The
Canadian Smart cdi is available in two models a coupe and convertible
and available in three models; labeled the Pure, Pulse and Passion.
Only the turbo-diesel power plant is offered as
power for the coupe and convertible models because of emission
regulations for the gasoline engines set forth by Transport Canada.
The Smart cdi is the world's best-selling
"three-liter" car.
The Pure is the entire level model of the smart brand.
The base price for a Pure coupe is $16,700 and with a few bells
and whistles it will cost you $19,000.
The base price for a Pure Cabriolet is $19,700 and with a few bells,
like air, stereo and wheels it will cost you $23,400.
The Pure model comes only in a black Tridion safely cell.
Removable body panels are light, flexible and well made. You can
change the panels, thus changing the colors, as you would your watchband.
The flexible plastic panels mean they do not dent or scratch on
minor impact.
The diesel-powered versions of the Smart are currently
doing particularly well, and nearly one out of four Smart Fortwo
delivered to customers in last May was equipped with common-rail
technology.
The Smart cdi (diesel) model outshines the economy
of many hybrid cars.
Manufactured from recyclable materials; 80 percent of all materials
that go into it are recyclable - Smart is green, lean and mean.
Safety features include front airbags, lateral airbags, ABS brakes
and an electronic stability system (ESP).
